"Having a private midwife was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I was apprehensive about pregnancy and birth due to bad experiences close friends and family have had. My community midwife was unable to give the time I needed to discuss my concerns and overcome them. Jo spent the time in our appointments educating me on the physiology, assuaging fears and promoting a positive birth. Over the weeks I became more relaxed and confident about my abilities and choices around birthing! Having Emily at my birth in addition to the hospital midwives was an amazing support to my husband and I. Just knowing she was there made us both feel at ease, and when I had complications with the third stage she was able to keep me calm, focused and feeling safe. On top of this the aftercare from both Jo and Emily was invaluable. They were never far away with well scheduled visits and communication by phone and text. Without the regular reassurance and support they provided I would have most certainly given up breastfeeding my baby girl, which I love still being able to do 9 weeks later. The care we all received – my husband, daughter and I – was fabulous and made a life changing event truly wonderful and memorable. I feel like I have gained friendships as part of the experience and will call on them if we have another baby."

"I cannot put into words how much Jo has helped and guided me through both my pregnancies, she’s not only a brilliant midwife and someone I feel totally safe with, but has become a dear friend. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do to have Jo at the birth of all my babies. My advice to anyone who is struggling to justify paying for Jo as a midwife when you can go down the NHS route is: it’s all about quality…ditch the brand-new pram and buy a ‘pre-loved’ one, spend the money on your birth and I promise it’ll be the best thing you’ve ever done."

"Having the same midwife for every single visit makes such a difference, you really feel like she understands you and your family. Being a working mum of two already, having someone fitting around our needs made everything so much less stressful. I loved that the whole family were involved in Emily’s visits to our home, the children listened to their sister’s heartbeat and were so much part of the pregnancy journey...O’s birth at home was the most beautiful experience I could have wished for. It was so calm and relaxing, the lights were low, we had fairy lights everywhere and our music playing in the background. When O arrived in the water, Emily tapped O towards me so I could slowly lift her out of the water. I was the first one to hold my baby, that is so incredibly empowering and I put her straight to my skin. I didn’t know that labour and birth could be so magical and it is all thanks to Emily, giving me the confidence and skills to relax and the knowledge I could trust my body to do what it needed to do."
