Kayla Mead

Kayla is a Birth Doula who works across S.W. London with her primary hospitals being Chelsea & Westminster and St Georges. She can also support you at Kingston, St Helliers and St Thomas’s and also advocates home births as a wonderful experience for the right people.

Hello! I have always loved babies and after travelling the world as a Norland Maternity Nurse, I settled down in London to be a solo mum. My sons birth wasn’t the easiest and when I discovered Doulas I thought I could really help women to have a better experience than I had.

I trained as a Birth Doula and now have eleven years of experience working both privately in South West London and part-time on the Birth Centre at Chelsea & Westminster hospital. I was one of the first ever doulas employed by the NHS eight years ago and I believe the vast experience I have gained in all fields of maternity care (including my ten years as a maternity nurse) is of benefit to my private clients. I enjoy the continuity and connection with the pregnant couples; from the initial meeting, the antenatal meetings, the birth right through to the postnatal time.

I believe that having a baby is a truly unique, wonderful and life changing experience which should be both cherished and a happy memory for life. To help you achieve this my aim is simple – caring, supporting and empowering you throughout the pregnancy and entire labour, providing both consistency and calmness along this wondrous journey.

As your doula I will provide you with a tailored, personalised and professional service throughout your pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal journey. This will consist of extensive and knowledgeable guidance in a non-judgemental, relaxed and friendly manner in your home to suit your particular birth, your personal needs and to compliment any other antenatal classes you might have attended.I enjoy working with a variety of women; first pregnancies, IVF, multiple pregnancies, caesarean sections, older mums, single mums, VBAC’s, water births and women who have had a previous difficult first birth. In the early stages of labour I will be with you at your home offering calmness and support before accompanying you to hospital (or staying at home for a home-birth). Once at the hospital, support and guidance with any type of pain relief you might wish to consider including epidural. Then finally assist you to breastfeed effectively and offer flexible after care for you and your baby once home from the hospital.Wishing you a beautiful and happy birth and remember; the moment a baby is born, the mother is also born.
